Luke Nozicka, Investigator Fellow

Luke Nozicka joined the Midwest Innocence Project as an investigator fellow in January 2024. Under the supervision of the MIP’s staff investigator, he reviews and investigates wrongful conviction cases.

Before joining the MIP, Luke worked for nearly five years as a criminal justice and investigative journalist at The Kansas City Star. His reporting helped free Kevin Strickland, an MIP client who spent four decades in prison for crimes he did not commit. Luke was also among a team of reporters that investigated racial discrimination within the Kansas City Police Department, which prompted a federal probe into the force’s employment practices.

Luke previously worked at other newspapers, including the Des Moines Register in Iowa. He holds a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Southern Illinois University.

Outside of work, Luke enjoys rock climbing, walking shelter dogs and spending time with his wife and friends.
