2026 June Dispatch

For 25 years, Midwest Innocence Project has stood beside innocent people and their families in the fight for freedom.

Today, we are facing one of the most challenging moments in our organization’s history.

The demand for our services continues to grow. New requests for help arrive regularly from across Missouri, Kansas, Arkansas, Iowa, and Nebraska. At the same time, the financial landscape for nonprofit organizations has become increasingly difficult, with growing competition for charitable dollars and uncertainty across many funding sources.

Earlier this year, Midwest Innocence Project made difficult operational reductions in response to ongoing financial pressures. While those changes helped extend our runway and position the organization for the future, additional support is needed to ensure we can continue meeting the growing demand for innocence services throughout the region.

As an innocence organization serving Missouri, Kansas, Arkansas, Iowa, and Nebraska, we know the consequences of stepping back. Every delayed investigation, every unreviewed claim, and every missed opportunity to support a client represents a person waiting for justice.

Our team continues to investigate wrongful conviction claims, litigate active cases, provide client support services, and advocate for systemic change. But sustaining this work requires resources.

Right now, we need your help.
